Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art
The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art rotates a wide variety of artwork through its main gallery. Recent and upcoming exhibits include Real Food Films, a curated selection of competitive short films on food, farming and sustainability. You’ll also find Everyday Magic, photographs by Lauren Keim that "celebrate the vitality and beauty of overlooked moments in everyday life."
In addition to the main gallery, artwork is on display at the satellite gallery, just two blocks away, and The Fleming Gallery. Permanently on display is the kaleidoscopic glasswork of the world-renowned Dale Chihuly: Mille Colori. There are also monthly meetings for coffee and conversation, about recent and current exhibits.
Vibe Creative District
Just five blocks from the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Vibe Creative District headquarters is a hub for local artists. It focuses on creating murals, street art, and sculptures in the downtown area. Over the past two years, Vibe has given over $100,000 to local artists. The result is 51 building murals, fence murals, and sidewalk and crosswalk paintings, packed within a five-block radius.
Grab a map, and tour these vibrant, building-sized works of art from the street level, or visit them virtually. Be sure to attend the yearly mural festival to watch as 10 new murals are created in 10 days by skilled artists.
